"Lisa grew up in Ann Arbor, attending Pattengill, Tappan, and Community High schools, then focusing on vocal music at Interlochen Arts Academy, Oberlin Conservatory, and New England Conservatory. Now 47, she has had an unusually versatile career as a recitalist and opera singer. She is acclaimed for performances of twentieth-century repertoire in works by Berg, Ravel, Stravinsky, Britten, Henze, Zimmerman, Sheng, Knussen. She has also performed major pieces and roles in the Baroque and Classical repertoire -oratorios and operas by Bach, Mozart, and especially Handel (of whom she is a prominent interpreter). She has also performed numerous bel-canto roles in operas by Donizetti and Bellini. Critics have commended her coloratura abilities, her versatility, her theatrical accomplishments in both comedic and tragic roles, her combination of excellent technique and musical intelligence."
