Fei Xu is new UM fellow at RAC
University of Michigan Business School major Fei Xu will bring her talents to the RAC Foundation Board through December.

Xu will be in charge of a mix of graduate and undergraduate business students devoted to working toward strategies and objectives identified by RAC’s Foundation Board.

Irene Cheung, who has been serving in that position, says, “Since I am so familiar with the Riverside, I will be happy to work with Fei to answer any questions she and her team might have…”

UM Business School team brings RAC market savvy
UMBSUM’s Irene Cheung currently serves as a RAC Foundation Board Fellow and now brings even more expertise from the University of Michigan School of Business in the form of the school’s Community Consulting Club.

By mid-December, the team expects to work with RAC to:
• Conduct a marketing audit
• Identify partnerships with potential organizations in the community
• Identify internal communications.
• Develop a marketing plan and strategies

The team of both graduate and undergraduate UM students brings a varied background of personal experience and expertise: Team leader Fei Xu is from Hangzhou, China; José Cruz from Brooklyn, NY; Angela F. Uppuluri from Chicago, IL; Brian Harley from Cranford, NJ; and Aaron Peacock from Dearborn, MI; Andrew Noh; and Gregory Farber.

“All of us are very excited about this project,” says team leader Fei Xu, “and we are confident that we will deliver a significant impact on the Riverside Arts Center and its community!”

The CCC team expects to present their final report to the RAC Foundation Board at its December 19 meeting.

Gallery Coordinator sought
“Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound,” might well be an attribute for RAC’s next Gallery Director. But Superman mottoes are only a small part of the Gallery’s Director success story.

The Arts Center mourns the loss of Riverside Gallery Coordinator Robin Remick who has moved to Boston where her husband has joined the staff at Boston University Medical Center.

Madeline Thiry came on board as interim gallery coordinator to work for eight weeks, prior to starting a new job with the company where she did her graduate internship. During this time, Madeline has put her skills as an arts administrator to good use. “I’ve tried to identify what needs priority attention at the gallery--recruiting and retaining volunteers, improving on marketing and promotion, for example, to build on the gallery’s strengths. It’s been rewarding and fun.”

Now that RAC is seeking another Gallery Coordinator, applicants for such volunteerism might wonder just what the job entails. Remick and Thiry’s recent reports to RAC’s Foundation Board indicate it’s a complex job,and list the following as important functions: Meet with artists, schedule rentals, secure contracts and exhibitions, hang and strike shows, schedule gallery docents, create and distribute monthly press releases, and much more.

With this background, it is no wonder the Riverside Gallery has seen such success with this commitment to volunteerism.

Potential applicants for the postion of Riverside Gallery Coordinator may call the Arts Center at 734-480-2787 or send a résumé to Riverside Arts Center, 76 N. Huron Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
