Riverside Arts Center, Winter, 2007, Newsletter

Docent Dee Overly wins national award
Ypsilanti artist Dee Overly, a longtime docent and enthusiastic supporter of the Riverside Gallery, has won second place in American Artist magazine’s Colored Pencil 70th Anniversary Competition. Dee’s entry, a beautiful drawing titled Raindrops, was recently on display at Riverside in her September gallery show. Dee’s winning artwork can be seen in the December 2008 issue of American Artist.

Congratulations, Dee, on this outstanding award!

Docents needed for Riverside Gallery
The gallery is fortunate to have a group of dedicated docents who “gallery sit” during exhibitions, but we are always in need of more volunteers. It’s as easy as sitting on your front porch––and visitors are always happy to initiate conversation as they peruse the works in each show.

If you can assist––either regularly or just occasionally––please leave a message at 480-2787 or write to RACgallery@yahoo.com for more information.

Art news
A thief in Paris planned to steal some paintings from the Louvre. After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings and made it safely to his van.

However, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied, “Monsieur, that is the reason I stole the paintings. I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh.”
