Meet two artists in the “Comics, Cartoons and Caricatures” Exhibit
Introducing two more of the talented Michigan artists in our March exhibit. Stop by the gallery this Friday, March 15, any time from 3-6pm to meet these artists and chat with them about their cartoon art.
Birgit Keil: Blessed with both the gift of imagination and illustration, Birgit brings whimsy to books, cartoons, animation and ads. Her work includes numerous honors and awards, best selling products, pro-bono projects and most of all – passion.
Birgit’s Just Bea Cartoon presents greening and cause-mindedness in a light and amusing way, helping people see that the small things they do really can make a difference. From organic gardening, turning off the water when brushing teeth or helping out an animal – every little bit helps.
Her work includes businesses that are also making a difference like General Motors, Pure Michigan, Green Living Science, Michigan Humane Society, World Clothes Line and the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor. Birgit has co-created, illustrated and co-authored Happy Trails Michigan featuring “Bea” and gang in a road trip companion of puzzles, history, fun facts, decals and more.
BK Taylor: Works as an illustrator, writer and performer who has contributed to a broad variety of media.
BK is best known for his cartoon strips The Appletons and Timberland Tales which appear in the National Lampoon. He did character design for the Walt Disney Feature Animation movie The Legend of Mulan. BK was also a staff writer for three seasons on the hit comedy TV series Home Improvement with Tim Allen.
Taylor worked with Jim Henson Associates where he developed character designs for the Muppet band’s Dr Teeth and various monsters and illustrations for Henson Publishing and wrote for the TV show Henson Hour. You can also find BK’s illustration work in books and magazines for both Sesame Street and Nickelodeon.
In the film and TV industry BK has done everything from production design and storyboard work to being a Creative director and producer. His work has won him several awards, such as Inkpot, Bold Brick, Funny Bone, Ace Four Caddies, and the 2010 Reed Award for Political Cartooning.
