Fiber Art Demo With Felt

Michele
Join Michele Montour in the Gallery
March 24, 2012 at 3:oo pm
Michele is a fiber artist (BFA from EMU in fiber art) and will demonstrate nuno felting.
Nuno meaning “fabric or cloth” in Japanese. This is a wet felting process. She will layer merino wool onto dyed silk, explain the felting process and what is necessary to get the wool to adhere to the silk. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate.
Michele started her career in graphic design, which led her to discover an interest in fiber. She says, “Interaction of color continuely intrigues me. Surface investigations such as, dyeing, discharge, folding, tearing, felting or stitching result in stimulating patterns and color combinations.”
Michele’s dyed, felted garments have been accepted in juried, international fashion shows and exhibits sponsored by Surface Design Association and Handweavers Guild of America.
In 2007, she received an Honorable Mention at Michigan League of Handweavers Biennial Conference for her garment “Dancing the Orange” . Michele’s work has been published in Belle Armoire 2005 and Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot 2006. Her work was also included with other Michigan artists at the Detroit Institute of Art in conjunction with the Richard Avedon exhibit (October 18, 2009-January 17, 2010).
The Life of Pine
Solo Exhibit by Dennis Gordon
March 1 -31, 2012
Reception: March 10, 5-7pm
Paintings and drawings for this show started with a story about the life and times of a pine cone, and then continued on to include other landscapes and studies of and with pines.
Although the central story is about an Eastern White Pine, there is some artistic license at including some other conifers.
A lover of nature? This is a story you’re sure to enjoy.
Exhibit and reception are open and free to the public.
