The Ypsilanti Heritage Foundation and the Riverside Arts Center jointly supported an entry in this year’s Independence Day parade.
The artwork, done by local scenic artist Beth Sandamier, is a representation of circa 1918 views of the Masonic Temple and the Detroit Edison buildings that make up the RACs campus.
The heading of “Preservation and the Arts…Picture Perfect” shows how our two organizations are intertwined.
Parade watchers will probably remember Beth’s rendition of Miss Ypsilanti Underwear from 2009. This year’s entry is less provocative, but every bit as compelling.
We hope all devotees of the arts and historic preservation in Ypsilanti will take note of our float and give an encouraging cheer! The parade will begin around 11 a.m. on July 4th. The line-up formation will start just west of the Ypsilanti Police station on Michigan Ave and travel east to River Street. See you there!
