Meet Your Summer Staff!

Jason Johnson (RCKBNY)

Inherently afrocentric, Jason’s work began from a need to see strong, beautiful revolutionary images of black art. One without heavy images of slavery and the things that lead us into the abyss. “I hate those to be honest. Always have.” It made him feel heavy and demoralized. “I figured the best way to depict our struggles is through our triumphs.” His work revolves around love, manifesting, and culture building. As an African American, it’s about realizing the duties and blessings of being in the unique position to build/create our own culture from scratch, And being able to smell those roses in real time. It’s about evolution. The undeniable global impact we’ve made in such a short time. It’s about appreciation and acknowledgment. His work explores color and how it feels coupled with the intention of creating a world for my theories and perceptions. He gravitates towards SUrrealism and minimalism with touches of whatever else.

Gina Danene Thompson and PURe Dance Ensemble

PURe Dance Ensemble is the brainchild of Gina Danene Thompson, Anthony Rollins Mullens, Rene Castaneda, and C-one Tang.
One foggy evening in San Francisco in a studio apartment on Nob Hill, four passionate dancers came together to form the structure for a New Dance company. The goal was to fuse styles (ballet, African ballroom and Modern) cultures (Chinese Nicaraguan and Black American) communities and ideas. The dream was to unite. we put our ideas in a hat , negotiated and whittled down to the finest points our need to be heard and included in the dance community,  in the Arts at large and eventually the World.

4th Wall Theatre Company

The goal of 4th Wall Theatre Company is to efficiently and respectfully teach actors-to-be of all abilities about the creative process of theatre. The founders believe musical theatre can be applied to educate all ages of theatre students about different aspects of themselves and with our younger students; real world skills. Each class is led by trained theatre professionals and culminates in a live performance for family and friends. The process of learning about the theatre and rehearsing a live show promotes teamwork, cooperation, belonging, work ethic, memory, leadership, social skills and maybe most importantly; it’s fun!

Their instructors are from a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. Each either holds or is in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. Degrees encompass a wide range of fields of study, ranging from Theatre Performance to Occupational Therapy to American Sign Language.

“The uniting element is a passion for our students, willingness to learn, grow, and improve. Our instructors are required to go through observation hours and on-the-job training before they join our team; but as with anything worth doing, the learning process is ongoing.”
