Ypsi Stitch: Visible Mending with Kim Debord



Mend and/or embellish your clothes with sewer, Kim DeBord. In this workshop you’ll learn to darn, appliqué, patch and use a variety of stitches including basic sashiko. Please bring a few clothes or fabric bags that need repairing or zhuzh up some favorites while learning these mending techniques. All other materials and supplies will be provided.

Bio:

Kim DeBord is an artist and educator working at the intersection of art, design & craft. She earned degrees in Fibers from the University of Michigan, Fashion from Parsons School of Design, and attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) as a Trustee Merit Scholar to earn her MFA in Fiber and Material Studies. Kim has taught at SAIC, Columbia College, Lill Street Art Center in Chicago, and helped to run FLY Creativity Lab leading the organization in a merger with Riverside Arts Center. Currently she teaches at the Ann Arbor Art Center and works with Invisible Engines, based here in Ypsilanti, to provide design and strategy services to the nonprofit community. She is thrilled to continue her involvement with Riverside Arts Center.
