I had the pleasure of watching Ypsilanti Youth Theatre’s run through for their upcoming play “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare. Everyone was enthusiastic to make sure their act would be perfect for their opening performance tonight!
A beautiful set awaits behind the doors of the theater made up of great scenes with a grand entrance in the middle of the stage. The main scene is composed of a tiki-like house with an opening that is used as an entrance and exit for the characters of the play.
The play follows the story of Benedick and Beatrice being tricked into confessing their love to each other. It also follows Claudio and Hero being rejected at the altar for Claudio thinks she is being unfaithful. Benedick and Beatrice make it their mission to help Hero and Claudio reconcile and at the end of the play, a dance number celebrates the two couples’ marriages.
Director Megan Wright led the development with the help of many volunteers. They all showed a unity as all of the actors did a great job at playing their characters and moving from one scene to the next. Shakespeare’s comedic elements are well presented by all of the actors.
I encourage you to go see this play as you don’t want to miss this great performance put on by the Ypsilanti Youth Theatre. This play has it all from superb acting by young talented actors to creative musical scenes.
